(back to Peniel Series)

ABOUT THE PENIEL SERIES

Peniel
Peniel (pronounced: PEHN-ih-el) is the name Jacob gave to the location where he wrestled with the angel, in the Genesis story. Most people experience some significant struggle in their lives. Some with experiences which have been resolved, some with challenges yet to come. Along with this theme of struggle, the Peniel Series addresses related issues of obscurity, clarity, transparency, complexity, discovery.... The overall mood, however, is positive, hopeful.

Materials
These works are true mixed media pieces. Materials include watercolor, acrylic, collage, found objects, pencil, ink, china marker, pastel, xylol transfer, and resin. The epoxy-like resin is applied in layers which gives the work an exciting 3-dimensionality, as you see into and through the layers. Of course the photographs on these pages don't convey the 3-dimensionality that you experience in person, but hopefully the section of details helps.
